How to Access Support/Services

Boy near a horseOur system to access supports/services in North Carolina can be confusing for anyone to navigate. Most supports/services must be authorized and approved through the Managed Care Organizations (MCO), which the state uses to administer services to certain geographic area. Expansion of North Carolina’s 1915 (b)/(c) Medicaid waiver requires approval by the federal Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). Such approval allows each selected LME to develop a managed care delivery system to serve individuals with mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse needs who are eligible for Medicaid. Each Managed Care Organization (MCO) receives from Medicaid a per capita rate based on historical service utilization patterns for these populations. The MCO assumes financial risk for covering required services for each Medicaid eligible individual.

We also accept Medicare and private insurance including Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Medcost.
