Monarch Creative Arts & Community Center (MCACC)
Monarch’s day program in Southern Pines is now a dream fulfilled. In February 2012, the Monarch Creative Arts & Community Center (MCACC), formerly Vocational LINKS, became a reality for the people supported and their families.
The beautiful new 12,000 sq. ft. facility located on Richards Street provides a new venue for Monarch’s day program, which supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and offers various activities and services. The space includes a pottery studio with kiln, art and dance studios, fitness space, full kitchen and a conference and meeting room. The center also contains one of two Monarch gift shops that are open to the public and sells unique items, decorative wreaths, gift baskets and seasonal gifts, which are often made by the people supported. A state-of-the art computer lab with the latest adaptive technology is also planned.
The MCACC was designed to offer cultural arts and engagement opportunities for day program participants and the public. Local artists, community college faculty and staff and volunteers work with people who attend the program to help them to demonstrate and enhance their creativity through dance and drama, pottery and jewelry making, painting, cooking, gardening and other engaging activities. Local residents and community organizations are invited to join classes and workshops that are offered for the people supported.
Monarch will use the new center during the day and offer the opportunity for local community members to join in the offered classes alongside the people we support. In the evening and on weekends, the space will be open for distance learning classes offered by Sandhills Community College and for civic, church, and community organizations meeting and hosting activities. Local group homes will also have access to the space in the evenings.
The MCACC is located at 1662 Richards Street, Southern Pines. Monarch's Moore County administrative office and mailing address is:
280 Pinehurst Avenue, Ste. A
