The Arc of Stanly County Advisory Committee
Appointed by the Monarch Board of Directors, the Arc Stanly Committee is charged with upholding the US Arc Bylaws and Affiliation agreement and to promote Advocacy, Public Education and Membership in Stanly County.
Committee members are actively engaged in advocacy at the local, state and national levels.
Advisory Committee Chair
Larry Hinson serves as chairperson of The Arc of Stanly County Advisory Committee and also serves as a member of the Policy Committee and Executive Committee for the Monarch Board of Directors.
A retired law enforcement veteran with a distinguished career at the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department, Larry, who has a degree in criminal justice, served as Past President of the North Carolina Retired Peace Officers Association. During his tenure with the department, he earned the prominent honor of Cabarrus County Officer of the Year.
Larry is a longtime advocate for people with disabilities. In addition to his role as chairperson for The Arc of Stanly County Advisory Committee, he serves on the Board of Directors for The Arc of North Carolina. He and his wife, Brenda, who is chairperson of the Monarch Board of Directors, regularly attends disability conferences in Washington, D.C. and the couple often attends national conventions as advocates for The Arc of the US.
"I have a strong desire to serve the Lord and believe in giving of myself to help others,” said Larry, whose grandson Matt is supported by Monarch. “I choose to volunteer for Monarch because my family has and continues to benefit from its mission.”
The Hinsons reside in Albemarle. They have a daughter and two grandchildren. A servant leader, Larry is currently chairman of the deacon committee at Canton Baptist Church, where he is Sunday School Teacher, choir member and serves on a variety of church committees.
