Monarch receives gift from Enterprise Holdings Foundation for Mental Health First Aid program
The Enterprise Holdings Foundation recently awarded $2,500 to Monarch to support its Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) program, an eight-hour course that teaches participants to identify and provide assistance to someone who might be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.
Because 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 youth experience a mental illness in a given year, according to the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI), MHFA helps participants to recognize signs of substance abuse disorders and mental illness such as depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, eating disorders and self-injury. Those who attend the session will learn how to connect individuals demonstrating or exhibiting these signs to proper professional care and resources.
The Enterprise gift will assist Monarch with continuing to offer its public MHFA trainings. To date, Monarch, with support from community and business partners, has provided training to 300 people statewide.
The Enterprise Holdings Foundation gives back and strengthens through charitable support in thousands of communities where Enterprise customers and employees work and live. The grant to Monarch was made possible by local employees of Enterprise Fleet Management, an affiliate of Enterprise Holdings.
Blake Martin, Monarch’s chief development officer, said this secured gift demonstrates the importance of Monarch’s partnership with Enterprise Holdings Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the company that operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands. He said the support also helps Monarch to increase awareness and understanding that mental illness is real, common and treatable.
“Enterprise has been a valuable corporate partner to Monarch over the years,” Martin explained. “This gift supports important training in our communities and helps reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.”
