Monarch Golf Tournament Raises More Than $45,000

On April 20, Monarch hosted its Fourth Annual Dreams Take Flight Golf Tournament, with a sellout crowd, at Tillery Tradition Golf Club in Mt. Gilead. The fundraiser raised approximately $45,000 to benefit the programs and services Monarch provides to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness and substance abuse challenges.

Tee time began at 1 p.m. and 29 teams participated to support Monarch and compete for the championship title. The golfers not only played 18 holes, but had lots of opportunities to earn bragging rights with a number of contests, including a putting competition. The highlight of the afternoon was the ball drop, which released approximately 225 numbered golf balls.

Contest winners included:

First place tournament winners received a $100 gift credit per player to the Tillery Golf Pro Shop. The winning team included David Smith, Ron Swanner, Mark Andrew and David Palmer, all from Stanly County.
First place ball drop winner earned a $1,000 prize. Prize winner: Jeff Gaskin of Weddington.
Second place ball drop winner received a $500 prize. Prize winner: Rachel Morrison of Norwood.
Putting contest winner earned a golf outing to Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines. Prize winner: Clint Miller of Mt. Pleasant.

The event ended with an awards ceremony and reception. Blake Martin, chief development officer and golf tournament organizer, said he was thankful to all who supported the event.

“We are extremely grateful for the tremendous support we have received from numerous individuals, staff and area businesses and organizations that have helped to make this event successful,” Martin said. “All the proceeds raised from this tournament will help Monarch to further advance its mission to provide quality services and to help fulfill the dreams of the thousands of people we support statewide.”
