Monarch Spotlight: Maelene Hayes
Maelene Hayes is a recruiter at our Lillian Mills office in Albemarle. She recently won the Dream Maker Award and this month she talked to us about what life in the Human Resources department is like.
What does a typical workday look like?
I review applications for those who have applied to the positions I recruit. My areas cover intellectual and developmental disabilities services for Regions 5 and 6.
I contact applicants to screen for compatibility to the positions they applied for or to complete their application profile. I create ads for positions and upcoming events, visit Monarch locations, run background checks for candidates under consideration, send correspondence letters to candidates under consideration for hire regarding their status, and schedule new hires for orientation and trainings. We also attend career fairs and hiring events to spread awareness about Monarch’s services and to find quality staff.
What is the most important aspect of your role and why?
Communication. We communicate with the team to find employees to become members of our team to support those we serve. Finding quality staff who care and have the heart for the mission and vision of Monarch.
What has been your most rewarding, or your proudest moment, while working here?
Having the opportunity to visit the homes and centers of those we work for, meeting the individuals who live there and the staff, and seeing their accomplishments. As a parent of a child on the autism spectrum it is great to know there are options and people who care to provide quality services.
What do you do when you aren't working?
Sleep, spend time with my family and shop.
Movie or song that best describes you?
Song: “Champion” by Darwin Hobbs.
Movie: Hasn't been made yet.
