National Disability Employment Awareness Month
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and Monarch is joining thousands of other organizations to celebrate American workers with disabilities.
This year's theme is "My disability is one part of who I am.”
Celebrating its 70th Anniversary, NDEAM is led by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy, and is also meant to educate and raise awareness about disability employment issues.
This year, Monarch helped has helped more than 200 people with disabilities find jobs, despite an unemployment rate of 10.4 percent for Americans with disabilities, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
"This year's theme encapsulates the important message that people with disabilities are just that — people," said Amy Chavis, Monarch program director." Monarch is proud to be a part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. We value the diverse perspectives that individuals with disabilities bring to the table."
Employers and employees in all industries can learn more about how to participate in National Disability Employment Awareness Month and ways they can promote its messages — during October and throughout the year — by visiting the ODEP website at www.dol.gov/ndeam.
