World Mental Health Day

world mental health dayWorld Mental Health Day is observed on Oct. 10 every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.

The day is observed during the National Alliance on Mental Health’s (NAMI) Mental Illness Awareness Week, Oct. 4-10, and provides an opportunity for discussions on mental health issues, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. This year, the theme revolves around building a movement through the new “StigmaFree” initiative.

The theme for World Mental Health Day 2015 is "Dignity in mental health." This year, The World Health Organization will be raising awareness of what can be done to ensure that people with mental health conditions can continue to live with dignity, through human rights oriented policy and law, training of health professionals, respect for informed consent to treatment, inclusion in decision-making processes and public information campaigns.
