Local News: Monarch Participants Start New Civitan Club in Norwood
The Civitan Club in Norwood obtained their official status as an organization this past month. Over the summer, Josh Walker, a person supported at Monarch’s Cohen Home, and his mother have been working hard to get the group started, recruit members and register the chapter.
“This is a great story of community inclusion,” said Holly Jaynes Murphy, a Monarch operations manager. “The guys are so excited to have things up and running and are already planning their community service projects.”
The group, which is part of Civitan International, an organization of volunteer service clubs around the world dedicated to helping people in their own communities, held their induction dinner in Albemarle. During the meal, the Kannapolis Civitan’s Group awarded the new group $500 and the mayor of Norwood made a special appearance. The 12 new Monarch members were also presented with letters from other Civitan members from around the country, and they even received a letter from a group in Australia.
Walker was inducted as the group’s president and Harry Cohen, another person supported at Monarch, as the vice president.
People we support from the East Main Home, Valley View and Anderson Road home have also joined the club.
