National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week is Sept.13-19, 2015
To honor the direct support workforce and the tremendous difference these professionals make in the lives of millions of Americans with disabilities, The U.S. Senate has designated the week of Sept.13 -19, 2015 as Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week.
Across the country, direct support professionals (DSP) maintain trusted relationships with millions of people with disabilities supported each day. These professionals enable people with developmental disabilities to live in their own communities by assisting them with their daily affairs and intimate needs including medications, meals, dressing, mobility, vocational training, respite care and other in-home services.
“We recognize the people we support are more likely to succeed when they have experienced staff, who are motivated, provide stable and compatible support and are cheering for them," said Jim Kelley, Monarch's chief operating officer. “Many people’s successes at Monarch come from our talented and caring direct support professionals. These key staff members are vital to the agency’s success and we are very proud of the work and sacrifices they make every day.”
