N&N: Forsyth Industrial Systems Attend North Carolina Self Advocates Conference

FIS Self AdvocacyOn March 28, the people we support at Forsyth Industrial Systems (FIS) attended the North Carolina Self Advocates Conference in Clemmons. The annual conference helps to educate people with disabilities on how to advocate for themselves in different areas of their lives.

This year’s educational sessions were on healthy relationships, staying safe, independence through technology, home ownership and dealing with stress.  Along with the educational sessions there was a luncheon featuring a presentation entitled; “Become a Four Foot Giant-Living your Dream” and a magic show.  The evening was capped off by a delicious dinner and a party. FIS participants danced the night away while socializing with each other and meeting new people.

FIS Program Director Sharon Burns said the participants were so grateful for the experience and are planning on re-establishing their own Self Advocacy committee in Forsyth County.
