News & Notes: Daniel Godwin wins Vocational Achievement Award
Daniel Godwin, a resident at Monarch’s West Blanche home in Johnston County, recently accepted the North Carolina Association of Rehabilitation Facilities’ (NCARF) Vocational Achievement Award for outstanding work as an employee at Johnston County Industries’ (JCI) Cyber Café.
Godwin has been working at the café, located in the Johnston County Medical Mall, for two years. He performs a variety of duties from washing dishes to making coffee and cleaning tables.
Erin Driver, vocational services manager at JCI, nominated Godwin for the award and said that Godwin “has made excellent strides, is very proud to work at the cafe and loves wearing his Cyber Café t-shirt.”
“Daniel has increased his communication skills and made new friends and now has a greater base of natural supports in the community who recognize him,” Driver said. “His face lights up when he receives his check stub and is able to show his peers and other staff what he has purchased with his money earned.”
Each year JCI, which a member of NCARF, nominates employees for awards through their affiliation with NCARF. The award ceremony took place this year on Sept. 25 in Winston-Salem.
