Monarch’s director of peer services appointed to N.C. State Consumer and Family Advisory Committee
Brandon Tankersley, Monarch’s director of peer services, was recently appointed to the State Consumer and Family Advisory Committee (SCFAC).
SCFAC is a self-governing committee that advises the North Carolina legislature; the secretary of health and human services; and the director of the division of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services.
“I feel humbled and honored to be on the committee, and feel that I can be a key member and am looking forward to getting more involved,” Tankersley said.
He joined the 21-member committee in July, and will serve his 3-year term by helping to vote on and generate consumer and family agenda items for the General Assembly.
Tankersley noted that this committee will help garner more exposure for Monarch across the state and will allow us to add input into the policies and legislation that directly affects those with disabilities or mental health issues.
The Director of Peer Services will also be a keynote speaker at the 2014 National Alliance on Mental Illness’ (NAMI) N.C. Annual Conference in October. He will be speaking about his personal experience and the potential and power that peer support has and can play in recovery.
