N&N: Monarch to host blood drive in Asheboro Aug.19
Monarch is partnering with West Bend United Methodist Church for the third year in a row to host a blood drive in the Asheboro community on Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 1080 Albemarle Rd.
Cathy Herrera, Monarch operations manager for Middleton and Green Street Homes and the event organizer, started the blood drive with the vision of bringing people we support and the community together.
Those from Monarch’s homes in the area volunteer every year by helping to set-up and run the event. Shianne Jackson, a resident at Mainstream Group Home, and Gloria Davis, who lives at Hope House, both donate blood every year along with many others.
Herrera explained those we support know giving blood can help save lives and noted that volunteers love the event even if they can’t give blood because they know they are serving someone else who can help save lives.
“This is a way to show that Monarch joins together with the local community and church so others can live through a blood drive. I challenge people who have never given blood to come out this year. Last year our goal was 35 pints, this year I’d love to see 50 plus,” Herrera said.
