N&N: Mayor’s Committee Award

In October, Josh Durham and Kevin Strickland were given an award at the Mayor’s Committee Banquet for their service in the Lumberton community. Both attend Southeastern Industrial Center (SIC) and volunteer with the Robeson County Backpack Pals. The program packs food for low-income children. Both Durham and Strickland enjoy being out in their community and delivering the backpacks to local schools.

Danny Wilson, a program director at Monarch, said “when you look at the man power that is harnessed through our individuals volunteering for the community, it adds up to many dollars and helps the community greatly.”

This year so far, people Monarch supports from Region 4 have volunteered over 8,000 hours, equating to just over $150,000* to their communities.

*$19.09 is the 2011 NC state rate, provided by Independent Sector.
