Celebrating Direct Support Professionals
Sept. 8-14 is National DSP Recognition Week
To honor the direct support workforce and the tremendous difference they make each day in the lives of millions of Americans with disabilities, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory has proclaimed the week of September 8-14, 2013 as National Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) Recognition Week. Across the agency, Monarch direct support staff members will be honored in various ways to demonstrate appreciation for the great jobs they do every day.
Direct Support Professionals maintain trusted relationships with millions of people with disabilities they support each day. These professionals enable people with developmental disabilities to live in their own communities by assisting them with their daily affairs and intimate needs: medications, meals, dressing, mobility, vocational training, respite care and other in-home services. The successes of many of the people Monarch supports come from our talented and caring direct support team.
“We recognize the people we support are more likely to succeed when they have experienced staff, who are motivated, provide stable and compatible support and are cheering for them," said Jim Kelley, Monarch's chief operating officer. “Many people’s successes at Monarch come from our talented and caring Direct Support Professionals. These key staff members are vital to the agency’s success and we are very proud of the work and sacrifices they make every day.
Managers from across the region held cake and ice cream socials, hosted meals, presented gifts as well as certificates of appreciation to recognize staff.
