M.A.G.I.C.A.L garden groundbreaking at SIS in Albemarle Nov. 27
The Monarch Ability Garden Integrating Community and Land (M.A.G.I.C.A.L) will host a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the development of a community garden at Stanly invitedIndustrial Services (SIS) in Albemarle. The public event is scheduled to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the garden located at SIS, 730 Greenwood St., Albemarle.

The M.A.G.I.C.A.L. initiative was designed to provide a place for people to gather and learn about sustainable gardening while reaping the benefits of locally grown healthy foods. Area volunteers and people supported have already started work and have planted some produce, including pumpkins, just in time for the holidays.

Earlier this year, Monarch received a $7,000 award from the United Way of Stanly County for the Albemarle garden project. Representatives from several community groups, including the county’s cooperative extension service and Stanly County Community College, have participated in the garden’s progress. The Albemarle garden is one of three that Monarch will develop across the state. A groundbreaking for the community garden in New Bern was held in August.
